Meet Key Staff at FCI

Joe Dale

President

Mr. Dale has been president of FCI since forming the company in 1978. Under his leadership, FCI earned a reputation as one of the foremost software providers in the Unisys marketplace. Formerly, Joe was Chief of Technical Planning and Integration for the County of Los Angeles Data Processing Department. Prior to that, Joe was an operating systems specialist with Sperry Corporation. There, he supported sales and installations of 1100 Series systems throughout the Western U.S. In the U.S. Air Force, he was the officer in charge of operating systems software at the Air Force Global Weather Central. He holds a B.S. from the University of Illinois and a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan.

Bud Schultz

Vice President

Under Mr. Schultz’s leadership in Marketing and Sales, FCI has delivered products and services world-wide, to airlines, state and local governments, federal agencies, and a wide variety of commercial customers. Bud was responsible for the original development of STAR- 1100, the premiere tape management system for OS 2200. Formerly, Bud developed hardware/software plans for the County of Los Angeles’ Unisys data center. Prior, he managed systems software for Arizona State University. Working for Sperry, he provided pre- and post-sales support. Bud has served on the Board of Directors of the Unisys user association UNITE.

Tony Sapienza

Vice President

Mr. Sapienza is a highly versatile IT professional with extensive experience in the industry.  Tony has fulfilled several key roles at FCI, including: sales and marketing, program management, technical consulting, and software development. Mr. Sapienza has guided teams through all phases of defining and developing new products and services, conducting market research, supporting systems and driving sales. Prior to joining FCI, he provided on-site support in a post-sales role, for Sperry’s County of Orange account. Mr. Sapienza holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona. He has also pursued graduate studies in engineering and business at UCLA and USC.

Craig Preston

Administrator

Mr. Preston’s responsibilities at FCI include: finance, contracts, human resources and administrative operations. Craig has extensive experience in all facets of administration and accounting. Craig has a degree in Industrial Engineering from Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo, and an MBA from Cal State Fullerton. Craig previously served as vice president controller for a chain of printing stores, where he was responsible for all areas of administration and finance.

Gary Markowski

Manager of Product Development

Mr. Markowski has a distinguished career in the management of software development, for commercial products and customer-specific solutions. At FCI, he directs the software engineering staff in implementing new requirements for all FCI products. Gary also manages world-wide customer support for FCl’s products. He has given several technical presentations for the UNITE user group, receiving their award for best presentation, at an annual conference. Previously, Gary developed software for the Connecticut Labor Department.

John Cawley

Corporate Communications

Mr. Cawley’s career has included project management, and corporate communications. John has led development teams in the integration of 3rd party products with 2200 systems, MAPPER migration, and web-based solutions. John currently manages FCI’s technical documentation and corporate communications. Before joining FCI, Mr. Cawley developed banking transaction applications on IBM systems, and welfare applications for the County of Los Angeles. John holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Scott Nielsen

Manager of Technology Services

Scott Nielsen manages FCI’s corporate computer center. He coordinates the installation of new technology, system upgrades, and maintenance. Scott also is responsible for network management and telephony services.  He  develops standard procedures for supporting our technology assets.
Previously he worked for McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on software systems which tracked aircraft assembly.
Scott is an alumnus of California State University at Fullerton, where he received a degree in computer science.
